Flower Arranging Tips

Arrangers Goal
A flower designer's goal is to achieve a design securely balanced, whose proportions and rhythm are pleasing, with some contrast for interest, dominance of one or more elements for control, and all parts in appropriate scale.

Store tools in buckets of sand -
Fill a container with dry sand, pour a quart of vegetable oil evenly over the top, then push your hand tools in.  The sand acts as an abrasive to clean the tools and the oil keeps water from damaging the metal.

Gardening Tip:

Hawaiian Candied Sweet Potatoes

8 to 10 medium size sweet potatoes
1 pinch salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
1 can crushed pineapple, drained (14-20oz)
1 cup water
2 1/2 Tbsp cornstarch

Boil or bake sweet potatoes until tender.  Cook, peel and slice.  Mix cornstarch, sugar and salt.  Add water and boil about 10 minutes (should be thick).  Add butter and pineapple to syrup and pour over sliced sweet potatoes.  Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.  Garnish as desired.
This is an old family recipe we have used for 40 years.
